UTEX Scientific acquires PA-CAT to strengthen advanced ultrasonic inspection

The transaction adds phased array corrosion analysis technology to UTEX Scientific’s portfolio of NDT solutions.
UTEX Scientific adquirió PA-CAT Inc. para integrar análisis avanzado de corrosión

UTEX Scientific announced the acquisition of PA-CAT Inc., a company specializing in corrosion analysis using phased array ultrasound (phased array), previously owned by Holloway NDT & Engineering Inc.

Under the terms of the agreement, the company will assume ownership of PA-CAT technology, including the development of its algorithms, customer licensing, and the roadmap for future enhancements.

Current PA-CAT users will continue to receive support and access to future updates through an integrated team that includes PA-CAT’s current engineers and UTEX Scientific’s subject matter experts.

The transaction will enable the integration of PA-CAT technology into UTEX Scientific’s portfolio of non-destructive testing (NDT) software and instrumentation.

PA-CAT brings advanced corrosion analysis capabilities

PA-CAT was originally developed by Holloway NDT & Engineering as a phased array ultrasonic technique combined with cloud-based analysis services.

The solution uses industry-standard phased array equipment along with advanced modeling algorithms to generate quantitative corrosion assessments at critical points in piping and industrial vessels.

According to the company, the technology has been used globally by NDT service providers to measure corrosion in asset contact areas with greater accuracy.

UTEX seeks to optimize NDT workflows

Walter Weber, CEO of UTEX Scientific, stated that PA-CAT’s advanced phased array analysis capabilities complement the company’s strategy of developing flexible, intuitive software for ultrasonic inspection.

“Integrating PA-CAT into UTEX’s portfolio strengthens our ability to simplify ultrasonic inspection workflows,” Weber noted.

As part of the agreement, it will assume technological ownership of PA-CAT, including:

  • Algorithm development and evolution.
  • Customer license management.
  • Technical support and future updates.
  • Development of new inspection capabilities.

The company indicated that current PA-CAT users will continue to receive support through an integrated team made up of engineers from both companies.

Holloway NDT highlights the technology’s evolution

Paul Holloway, founder of Holloway NDT & Engineering, commented: «PA-CAT has proven to be an effective inspection method for a complex inspection problem.

We are proud of what we have achieved and are excited to see how it advances even further thanks to UTEX Scientific’s expertise in non-destructive testing software and instrumentation».

UTEX will expand solutions for automated inspection

UTEX Scientific develops software, instrumentation, and mechanical systems for non-destructive inspection automation in industries such as oil and gas, power generation, transportation, manufacturing, and aerospace.

The InspectionWare platform and the company’s technologies enable work with different NDT techniques, including:

  • Conventional ultrasound.
  • Phased array ultrasound.
  • Eddy currents.
  • Automated advanced inspection techniques.

PA-CAT integration will begin immediately, and the combined capabilities will be presented at industry events scheduled for 2026.
