PPG launches SEM brand in Mexico for automotive repair

The line includes solutions for surface preparation, sanding, detailing, masking, and aerosol touch-ups.

The SEM line arrives in the Mexican market with solutions for surface preparation, abrasives, detailing, masking, and aerosol touch-ups.

PPG announced the launch in Mexico of its SEM® brand, aimed at the automotive repair industry and specializing in products for vehicle surface preparation and repair.

The brand, with over 70 years of experience, is recognized by industry professionals in the United States and Australia for its solutions to optimize refinishing processes, reduce material waste, and improve the quality of the final finish.

SEM strengthens automotive refinishing in Mexico

Under the slogan “The Choice of Professionals”, SEM aims to support painters, detailing specialists, and automotive specialists at every stage of the repair process. Its portfolio includes products for efficient surface preparation, precise masking, and rapid repair of minor imperfections using aerosol systems.

According to PPG, more than 45,000 automotive painters in Mexico work under pressure to achieve high-quality finishes, while body shop performance is essential for profitability and customer satisfaction.

Alejandra Gallego, PPG’s Director of Related Products for Automotive Refinish, explained that surface preparation can account for up to 60% of a refinishing job, so any failure in this phase can affect adhesion, color, and the final finish.

SEM’s offering in Mexico includes high and medium-performance abrasives for fast and uniform sanding, detailing solutions for correction and finishing, high-performance masking tapes, and a customized aerosol system for quick and clean touch-ups in the workshop.

With this addition, PPG expands its presence in the automotive refinish market beyond coatings, providing workshops with complementary solutions to improve efficiency, consistency, and operational performance.

“The introduction of the SEM brand in Mexico expands PPG’s offering for the automotive refinish market, allowing us to provide more complete solutions for body shops,” said Juan Pablo Reyes, PPG’s Sales and Business Development Manager for Mexico in the automotive refinish division.

Availability of SEM products in Mexico

SEM products will be available during the first half of 2026 at points of sale through authorized PPG distributors, as well as in Comex® stores located in cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, León, and Tijuana.
