Portland Port moves forward after obtaining the full license to carry out LNG STS transfers. The new operational capability enables the port to manage fuel logistics directly and efficiently.

Technical authorization for LNG STS transfers

The license granted by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) allows STS operations to be carried out both at berths and in inner and outer anchorage areas. Under this arrangement, operators will be able to reduce transit times and optimize their shipping routes.

The location is ideal because it is just 20 nautical miles from the English Channel’s main trade routes. In addition, the infrastructure ensures safe, efficient access 24 hours a day.

To ensure the quality of these processes, the port authority has selected STS Marine Solutions as the first official licensee. This organization brings more than 36 years of experience in the transfer of crude oil and liquefied gases worldwide.

Specialized teams are prepared to provide ongoing technical support and complementary services. Vessels using the terminal will be able to access classification inspections and underwater cleaning while carrying out their loading operations.

The port positions itself as a comprehensive service hub that includes fuel supply and changes of ownership. Strict compliance with current regulations provides additional confidence to companies seeking flexibility in their energy logistics in southern England.
