The shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) signed a purchase agreement with Vår Energi CCS. Through this agreement, the Japanese entity will gain a 30% stake in the operating company of the Trudvang CCS ANS project, as well as an equivalent 30% share in exploration license EXL007 located in Norwegian territorial waters.
NYK’s Integration into the Trudvang Project
To implement the financial transaction, the corporate group will establish a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Norwegian territory. The definitive execution of the asset transfer is subject to obtaining relevant regulatory approvals and fulfilling conventional closing terms in the industrial sector.
Through this energy alliance, NYK aims to expand its operational scope beyond conventional maritime transport, with a view to developing comprehensive technical capabilities in the carbon storage value chain. The practical experience gained in this development phase in Europe will provide expertise on the technical and commercial aspects demanded by subsea infrastructure.
Likewise, the contemplated operations include maritime logistics for mobilizing captured emissions from European industrial centers. The collected carbon dioxide will be transported to the designated area for subsequent injection and permanent confinement within a marine geological formation.
Currently, engineering and consulting teams are conducting detailed technical analyses and market research on the commercial viability of the site. These preliminary studies will enable the structuring of future operational phases to optimize the logistical service provided to emitting industries in the region.
