The company Mellitah Oil and Gas, together with the National Oil Corporation of Libya, has completed the construction of the modules destined for the Bouri field. This progress was achieved at the Ravenna shipyards in Italy, and the units are now sailing toward their final offshore location.

Compliance with deadlines and progress at the Bouri field

The project’s progress has reached 69% total execution, a figure that exceeds initial projections, which placed progress at 62% for this date. Saipem’s management following the contract award in 2023 has allowed for the optimization of assembly times for the compressors and processing units.

Furthermore, the arrival of the cargo vessel at the gas field within the next ten days will trigger heavy lifting maneuvers on platforms three and four.

The engineering of this development includes a highly complex pipeline network for resource transfer. The plans include a 14-inch diameter line connecting the main structures and a 20-kilometer extension linking the Bouri field with the Sabratha platform.

This transport system is vital for directing the flow toward the Mellitah industrial complex and ensuring supply stability. The technical design will allow for the processing of 125 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

The NOC’s vision for 2030 is based on the total elimination of gas flaring, and this project is the central pillar of that strategy. Utilizing this natural resource will reduce the environmental impact of extraction operations and strengthen the country’s export capacity to international markets.

The total investment of $1,565 million aims to ensure that production formally begins in September 2026. This joint effort between local technicians and international contractors represents a firm step toward the modernization of national energy assets.
