Finnish shipping company Langh Ship has taken delivery of ” Ingrid ,” the first in a series of three 1,200 TEU container vessels. The christening ceremony took place at the PaxOcean shipyard in Zhoushan, with the participation of the owner family and representatives of the maritime industry .

Ingrid: A container ship optimized for efficiency

The ” Ingrid ” was developed in collaboration with the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) and features innovations that enhance its operational capacity. Its design allows for the transport of 45-foot containers both on deck and in the hold, offering greater logistical flexibility.

One of its most notable features is its hatch cover system, which opens in three sections across the width of the vessel. This facilitates access to the holds without having to unload the entire deck, improving efficiency in port operations .

Langh Ship has also incorporated advanced green technology solutions into this new series of vessels. ” Ingrid ” is equipped with a low-speed, two-stroke engine optimized to reduce fuel consumption. It also integrates a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system developed by Langh Tech, which can operate continuously in a closed loop, reducing air pollution.

Carbon capture system

One of the most important advances is the onboard carbon capture system, capable of reducing CO2 emissions by up to 50% . This system converts the captured CO2 into sodium carbonate, a byproduct reusable in various industrial applications, contributing to a more sustainable circular economy.

The new container ship also features a ballast water management system and a battery reserve, allowing for future adaptations to electric propulsion technologies. Its optimized hull design maximizes cargo capacity while maintaining a speed of up to 18 knots with reduced energy consumption.

Borchard Lines, a UK-based company, will operate the ” Ingrid ,” ensuring its integration into efficient and sustainable transport routes.
