Kinetics has commenced construction of the LNGT Karadeniz, the first high-capacity floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in its portfolio. The steel-cutting ceremony took place at Seatrium’s Tuas Boulevard shipyard in Singapore, marking a further step in the company’s strategy to expand its floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure.
The future vessel will have a regasification capacity of up to 600 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd). This capacity will allow it to meet the growing demand for flexible LNG import solutions and strengthen gas supplies in various markets.
LNGT Karadeniz’s capabilities to import LNG
In addition to its high processing capacity, the Karadeniz LNG terminal will incorporate low, medium, and high-pressure supply systems. This configuration will allow it to serve various LNG import projects and adapt to different gas distribution networks.
The vessel will also integrate a high-capacity regasification module along with LNG transfer systems, extended mooring, electrical distribution, auxiliary services, and advanced automation and control platforms. The goal is to offer a fully integrated floating terminal that meets high operational and safety standards.
Kinetics strengthens its international growth strategy
The new project is part of Kinetics’ expansion plan to increase its fleet of floating LNG assets in response to rising global demand for flexible energy infrastructure.
The company seeks to offer solutions that reduce implementation times compared to traditional land terminals and facilitate access to liquefied natural gas in countries that wish to strengthen their energy security and diversify their supply sources.
During the announcement, Kinetics CEO Mehmet Katmer emphasized that the construction of the Karadeniz LNGT represents a significant step forward for the company and will contribute to expanding the availability of higher-capacity LNG import solutions for international customers. He also noted that the project strengthens the company’s collaboration with Seatrium, a partner with whom Kinetics has developed numerous initiatives.
The first of a new generation of FSRUs
The LNGT Karadeniz will be the first vessel in a planned series of FSRUs developed by Kinetics. The company anticipates that these units will combine regasification technology with integrated marine systems to facilitate rapid deployment and efficient operation.
As part of Karpowership, Kinetics maintains its focus on developing floating energy infrastructure aimed at improving the energy resilience of various countries. The addition of the LNGT Karadeniz will expand the company’s operational capacity in the global LNG market and support projects seeking to advance towards lower-carbon energy systems.
