KBR will supply its Purifier® ammonia technology for the new plant that Pampa Energía will build in Bahía Blanca, a project that aims to become the largest single-line ammonia production facility in Latin America when it comes online towards the end of 2029.
Project seeks to strengthen regional fertilizer production
The US company announced it will provide the technology license, basic engineering package, and patented equipment for a plant with a capacity of 3,430 tons per day of ammonia. The facility will be part of an ammonia and urea complex designed to expand the availability of raw materials for fertilizer manufacturing in the region.
The development will be located in Bahía Blanca, one of Argentina’s main industrial hubs, once completed, the complex will increase national production capacity and support the supply of inputs for the Latin American agricultural sector.
Technology focused on energy efficiency
KBR’s Purifier® technology has been implemented in multiple international projects due to its ability to optimize energy consumption and improve the performance of ammonia production plants.
Likewise, the contract includes the supply of the basic engineering design package and proprietary equipment necessary for the execution of the project, whose construction will involve the participation of SACDE and Tecnimont.
Jay Ibrahim, president of Sustainable Technology Solutions at KBR, stated that the company expects to contribute to strengthening regional food security through ammonia processing technologies developed to offer high operational efficiency and reliable performance.
A strategic facility for Argentina
The future plant will represent one of the largest recent industrial investments in the country’s fertilizer sector. Its capacity will strengthen Bahía Blanca’s position as a key center for the petrochemical and chemical industry in South America.
The complex also responds to the expected growth in demand for fertilizers in regional agricultural markets, where the availability of ammonia continues to be an essential component for urea production.
