The Government of Israelannounced an investment of 6 million NIS (approximately 2 million dollars) to promote the development of marine energy solutionsThe initiative will fund applied research projects focused on wave energy, offshore energy systems, management tools based on artificial intelligence, and other technologies aimed at strengthening the sustainable use of the marine environment.
The program will be jointly developed by Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Israel Innovation Authority. The proposal aims to accelerate the introduction of new technologies to the market and strengthen the country’s capacity to advance its energy transition and emissions reduction goals.
Boosting invention in the maritime space
The plan aims to strengthen a collaborative ecosystem among universities, research centers, technology companies, and public institutions. The goal is to transform scientific developments into commercial solutions capable of integrating into both the Israeli energy market and international projects.
Priority areas include the generation of wave energy through wave motion, offshore marine energy systems, smart energy management platforms and the use of artificial intelligence and digital twins to optimize the performance of coastal infrastructures.
These technologies could help diversify the country’s energy mix and increase the production of renewable electricity from the sea.
Eco Wave Power highlights the program’s potential
At the moment, Eco Wave Power it operates the first and only wave energy plant connected to Israel’s power grid. The facility, located in the port of Jaffa, supplies clean electricity to the national grid through a power purchase agreement with Israel Electric Corporation.
The company believes that the new initiative can accelerate the development of new blue technology solutions and encourage the emergence of larger-scale commercial projects.

He explained that the experience gained at the Jaffa plant demonstrates that the marine renewable energies they can be incorporated into the national electricity system and serve as a basis for future technological developments.
Artificial intelligence and marine energy as a strategic bet
In addition to promoting wave energy, the program includes the development of digital tools that will improve the operational efficiency of marine facilities through artificial intelligence.
The growing demand for electricity stemming from data centers the rise of AI applications has increased interest in renewable energy sources capable of supplying energy in a stable and sustainable way. In this context, the combination of marine technologies, smart platforms, and simulation systems using digital twins emerges as an alternative for strengthening coastal energy infrastructure in the coming years.
With this investment, Israel seeks to position itself as a center of invention in marine energy and to promote the creation of solutions that can compete in the international market for clean technologies.
