Azule Energy awarded to SLB OneSubsea a contract to supply new control umbilicals intended forproyecto West Hub Tails, located in Block 15/06 off the coast of Angola.
The new infrastructure will allow production from the Sangos, Ochigufu, Mpungi, and Vandumbu fields to be transferred from the Ngoma FPSO to the Agogo FPSO. This operation is part of the Integrated West Hub (IWH) development, through which Azule Energy aims to extend the productive life of its offshore assets in the region.
OneSubsea will supply subsea infrastructure for West Hub Tails
As part of the contract, SLB OneSubsea will design and deliver the additional control umbilicals needed to complete the transition between both floating production units.
The fields included in the project have been producing through the Ngoma FPSO since 2014, however, this unit is approaching the end of its design life, so Azule Energy is preparing to transfer existing production to Agogão.
In this way, West Hub Tails will allow the West Hub assets to remain operational by combining new production infrastructure with the subsea systems that are already installed.
The contract also expands OneSubsea’s presence in Azule Energy’s offshore developments in Angola, the company had already supplied umbilicals for the West Hub production centers, as well as for the subsea connections associated with Agogo and Ndungu.
The FPSO Agogo will take over production from four fields
The FPSO Agog was incorporated into the Integrated West Hub to receive production from Block 15/06 and has the capacity to process up to 120,000 barrels of oil per day.
The unit also incorporates technologies aimed at reducing emissions associated with offshore production, an aspect that is especially relevant given the age of the FPSO Ngoma and its planned withdrawal from the production scheme.
With this transition, Azule Energy it will be able to concentrate production from the Sangos, Ochigufu, Mpungi and Vandumbu fields in Agogô, while extending the operational life of existing assets.
Maria Peralta, Vice President of Umbilical & Cable Systems at SLB OneSubsea, highlighted that the operation will extend the life of the West Hub fields and, at the same time, contribute to reducing the emissions intensity of operations.
West Hub Tails adds new submarine contracts
The West Hub Tails project also involves TechnipFMC, which previously won a contract to design and manufacture flexible tubing, risers, and associated equipment. The value of that contract was estimated to be between 75 million and 250 million dollars.
OneSubsea’s involvement will complement this package by supplying the necessary control systems to integrate the existing subsea infrastructure with the new production scheme based on the Agog FPSO.
Azule Energy is a joint venture owned equally by Eni and BP, through West Hub Tails, the company seeks to maintain production from the mature assets of Block 15/06 by integrating them with Agogo and the underwater infrastructure of the Integrated West Hub.
