Iberdrola, through its U.S. subsidiary Avangrid, began the installation of solar panels for the Oregon Trail Solar project, a 57 MWdc (41 MWac) photovoltaic plant located in Gilliam County, Oregon. The new infrastructure represents an advance in the group’s renewable capacity expansion in the United States and will strengthen the supply of clean electricity in a region with growing energy demand.

Oregon Trail Solar with More Than 100,000 Solar Panels

During the construction phase, Oregon Trail Solar maintains approximately 200 jobs, while installation work progresses on more than 100,000 photovoltaic panels that will comprise the plant.

Once operational next year, the project will produce sufficient energy to supply approximately 10,000 U.S. households annually through emission-free generation.

Additionally, the infrastructure will contribute to diversifying the local energy matrix and increasing the availability of electricity from renewable sources.

An Economic Boost for Gilliam County

In addition to its energy contribution, the project will generate economic benefits for communities in Gilliam County through property taxes and other local contributions.

These resources will help fund public services such as schools, infrastructure maintenance, and community programs throughout the plant’s operational life, strengthening regional economic development.

Oregon Trail Solar Expands Avangrid’s Presence in Oregon

The new installation is part of Avangrid’s growth strategy in the state of Oregon. The solar park is located adjacent to Pachwáywit Fields, a photovoltaic plant of 205 MWdc (162 MWac) already operational, and near Shutler Energy Storage, a battery storage system with 41 MW and 82 MWh capacity.

Currently, Avangrid manages more than 2,500 MW of installed capacity in Oregon and also operates its National Training Center in Sherman County along with a corporate office in Portland.

Iberdrola Strengthens Its Electrification Strategy in the United States

With the development of Oregon Trail Solar, Iberdrola continues to expand its portfolio of electrical infrastructure in the United States with projects designed to respond to increasing electricity demand through clean energy.

The company seeks to consolidate a more secure, competitive, and sustainable energy system, while driving investments capable of generating employment, attracting economic activity, and supporting the growth of communities where it develops its projects.
