Haesong Offshore Wind Co., Ltd. signed new strategic agreements with LS Cable & System, LS Marine Solution and KEPCO Engineering & Construction (KEPCO E&C) to strengthen the supply chain for its Haesong Offshore Wind 1 and 3 offshore wind projects in South Korea.
The alliances include Preferred Supplier Agreements (PSAs) for the supply, transport, and installation of submarine cables. They also encompass a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding focused on strengthening engineering, operation, and maintenance capabilities for offshore infrastructure.
A boost for Korean offshore wind infrastructure
The agreements will establish a more stable framework for the execution of the Haesong 1 and 3 projects, developments that are part of South Korea’s energy strategy to expand its offshore renewable generation capacity.
LS Cable & System will contribute its expertise in manufacturing high-capacity submarine cables, while LS Marine Solution will handle transportation and marine installation. KEPCO E&C will provide engineering capabilities and technical support for system integration.
The collaboration seeks to optimize coordination between local suppliers and accelerate the deployment of critical infrastructure for offshore wind energy transmission.
Agreements focused on technology localization and O&M
In addition to supplying and installing submarine cables, the companies will work on strengthening operation and maintenance (O&M) capabilities for future phases of the projects.
Developing local skills is one of Haesong Offshore Wind’s main objectives. The company aims to increase the participation of domestic suppliers within the offshore renewable energy value chain.
According to the company, this strategy will improve South Korea’s technological competitiveness in the global offshore wind energy market.
South Korea accelerates its offshore ambitions
The Haesong Offshore Wind projects are part of the growing marine renewable energy ecosystem that South Korea is promoting to reduce emissions and increase energy security.
The combination of industrial capabilities among cable manufacturers, maritime companies, and energy engineering firms strengthens the country’s ability to develop large-scale offshore projects with greater local participation.
Likewise, the initiative seeks to reinforce a sustainable growth model that involves local communities and strengthens Korean suppliers in the face of the international energy transition.
