Golden Pass LNG Began Its Liquefied Natural Gas Exports from Sabine Pass with the Dispatch of Its First Cargo, as It Advances Towards Full Commercial Operation.

Golden Pass LNG Begins Exports from Sabine Pass

Golden Pass loaded and dispatched its first LNG export cargo from the terminal located in Sabine Pass, Texas. The vessel’s departure marks a key step towards the commercial commissioning of one of North America’s largest liquefaction facilities.

Furthermore, the project reinforces the United States’ role as a supplier of liquefied natural gas to the international market. The company, a joint venture between QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil, indicated that this first shipment is part of the progressive advancement towards stable commercial operations.

An LNG Terminal with 18.1 Million Tons Per Year Capacity

The terminal features three liquefaction trains designed for a total capacity of 18.1 million tons per year. It also has five 155,000 m³ LNG storage tanks and two marine berths equipped to receive large-scale LNG carriers.

Similarly, the company expects to export approximately 18 million tons of LNG per year when the facility is fully operational. This volume would position Golden Pass LNG among the relevant complexes for global energy supply from the U.S. Gulf Coast.

QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil Advance Golden Pass Project

The development of Golden Pass is part of a joint investment between QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil. Both companies support an infrastructure aimed at transforming natural gas into LNG for shipment to international markets, especially in a context of high demand for flexible energy sources and reliable supply contracts.

For his part, Alex Savva, President and CEO of Golden Pass LNG, noted that the first cargo represents a decisive moment for the company, its workforce, the community, and the United States. He also highlighted the participation of employees, contractors, regulators, community members, and shareholders in the project’s commissioning.

Trains 2 and 3 Continue Under Construction and Commissioning

While Train 1 advances towards stable operation, Golden Pass LNG continues construction and commissioning work on Trains 2 and 3. The entry into service of these units is planned sequentially, once the first train achieves consistent operational conditions.

In parallel, Jeff Hammad, Commercial Director of Golden Pass LNG, affirmed that the start of exports from Sabine Pass reflects the vision outlined by QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil in committing to the project. For the company, the initial dispatch confirms the beginning of a new stage within its plan to supply U.S. LNG to the global market.

Impact on the Global Liquefied Natural Gas Market

The first LNG export cargo from Golden Pass arrives at a time when energy security, supplier diversification, and flexible cargo availability maintain significant weight in international gas trade. From Texas, the terminal adds new liquefaction capacity to the U.S. energy infrastructure.

Additionally, the project strengthens the LNG export network on the Gulf Coast, a strategic region due to its connection with gas reserves, port infrastructure, and maritime routes to Europe, Asia, and other buying markets. With the progressive incorporation of its three trains, Golden Pass LNG seeks to consolidate a large-scale operation to meet global demand.
