The Italian multinational acquires two million tonnes per year of liquefied natural gas through the optimization of infrastructure in the Kutei Basin.

Firstly, the energy corporation Eni has formalized three long-term commercial contracts with suppliers from the South Hub and North Hub projects in Indonesia. Through this strategic move, the Italian firm will control an average stake of over 80% in both gas development hubs. Consequently, this operation will increase the oil company’s global supply and reaffirm the Asian country’s geographical position as an export node for the international market.

Regarding logistical details, the agreed volume will reach approximately two million tonnes per year from the Kutei Basin. In this way, the supply will be channeled through the Bontang LNG liquefaction plant, located in East Kalimantan, a facility that will include the operational startup of a processing unit that has been inactive for several years. Likewise, the optimization of existing assets will allow for reduced operating costs and accelerated energy distribution times.

Furthermore, the integration of these resources directly contributes to the corporate goal of exceeding 20 million tonnes per year of contracted LNG supply by 2030. Indeed, this integrated growth links extraction development with direct access to global consumption. Additionally, company authorities have highlighted the importance of supplying natural gas as a low-carbon alternative to support the regional energy transition.

Finally, it is worth noting that the company’s presence in Indonesian territory dates back to 2001, a period during which it has structured a diversified exploration, development, and production portfolio. Currently, the organization’s net output is estimated at approximately 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. This production volume is primarily extracted from the Jangkrik and Merakes offshore fields, consolidating the East Kalimantan Basin as a fundamental pillar for its global financial stability.
