Shenzhen Port Group and Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Shenzhen, China, to accelerate the development of sustainable maritime corridors and projects associated with low-carbon shipping.
The alliance, signed on June 29, seeks to combine Shenzhen’s port capacity with Bureau Veritas’ technical expertise in inspection, certification, and verification of maritime assets. The objective is to convert new international standards into actionable measures for operators, ports, and logistics chain stakeholders.
Technical Cooperation for the Green Maritime Corridor
According to the terms of the agreement, both organizations will share complementary resources and capabilities to develop sustainable shipping projects. The intention is to generate replicable and scalable models that can be applied in other green maritime corridors.
Likewise, Bureau Veritas will provide technical support to Shenzhen Port Group and the maritime sector in general to interpret evolving regulatory policies. This assistance will be key to aligning national and international standards in areas such as sustainable fuels, supply infrastructure, and low-carbon port operations.
Certification for the Sustainable Fuels Chain
Bureau Veritas will provide testing, inspection, and certification services throughout the green fuels value chain. This encompasses from renewable energy production to bunkering infrastructure for marine fuels.
Additionally, the company has experience in national projects linked to sustainable fuels, a factor that can facilitate the practical implementation of solutions for the maritime energy transition.
Shenzhen Strengthens Its Role as a Green Maritime Hub
For Shenzhen Port Group, the agreement strengthens its low-carbon development strategy and its positioning as a global maritime hub. The cooperation with BV will enable the integration of the port’s industrial scenarios with technical capabilities for certification, regulatory assessment, and support for new low-emission trade routes.
For its part, Bureau Veritas strengthens its presence in the Asian maritime sector through a collaboration oriented toward decarbonization, technical standardization, and the creation of green corridors capable of connecting trade, regulation, and energy infrastructure.
