Baker Hughes announced the extension and expansion of its contract with Petrobras to supply integrated well construction solutions in the Santos Basin, one of Brazil’s main offshore regions for the development of pre-salt resources.

The agreement will allow the company to expand its well construction operations in several offshore oil fields. It will deploy part of its specialized offshore drilling technology portfolio, including the AutoTrak™ rotary directional drilling system, logging tools, and long-life Dynamus™ drill bits.

Likewise, these technologies will be used to optimize access to underwater reservoirs and improve operational efficiency in deepwater oil and gas projects.

Regarding the construction of offshore wells in Brazil

The contract extension complements the well construction services agreement signed between the two companies in early 2024. With this new phase, Baker Hughes will increase the scope of its integrated operations in the Brazilian offshore region.

The Santos Basin is home to some of the world’s most important pre-salt developments. Petrobras continues to strengthen its deepwater drilling and production activities to support the country’s energy production growth.

In this context, integrated drilling solutions become relevant due to their ability to reduce operating times and increase efficiency in complex environments.

Drilling technologies for complex offshore operations

The project will be executed by Baker Hughes’ Integration and Solutions team in conjunction with Petrobras’ well team. Both companies will work in a coordinated manner on offshore operations aimed at maximizing the technical performance of the wells.

In addition to drilling tools, the contract includes technologies and services related to cabling, cementing, well cleaning, fluids, fishing, remediation tools, and geosciences.

Amerino Gatti, executive vice president of Oilfield Services and Equipment at Baker Hughes, noted that the project reflects the company’s ability to integrate technology and operational management in highly complex projects.

According to the executive, the comprehensive approach seeks to raise the standards of efficiency and safety in the construction of offshore wells.
