The company Aramco has selected McDermott Nederland as one of eleven strategic contractors to enter into a long-term agreement (LTA). Regarding the areas of application, operations will primarily focus on processing infrastructure, petrochemical complexes and developments aimed at reducing carbon emissions. The corporation’s methodological approach will combine the use of global engineering centers with local technical capabilities to accelerate execution timelines.
To ensure operational viability within the territory, McDermott has established a strategic alliance with the local firm Solutions Leaders Fayez Engineering (SLFE). This entity holds the GES+ accreditation granted by Aramco, which optimizes the integration of advanced engineering services in the region. The collaboration follows a division of roles in which SLFE will manage direct customer support and internal technical work, while the international partner will coordinate global governance and macro-level project planning.
In relation to this collaborative model, Michael McKelvy, McDermott’s Chief Executive Officer, stated that the partnership with SLFE reflects a strong commitment to localizing capabilities, technology transfer, and the sustainable development of engineering competencies in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the Senior Vice President of Low Carbon Solutions, Rob Shaul, explained that this agreement reaffirms the confidence placed by the state operator in the company’s technical track record to deliver highly complex infrastructure.
In this way, both corporations will facilitate the achievement of the goals of the In-Kingdom Total Value Add program (IKTVA) promoted by the state oil company. SLFE President Ashraf Alkhaznadar noted that combining complementary strengths will strengthen the national engineering ecosystem. Likewise, the project seeks to consolidate an efficient supply network that reduces logistics costs and boosts the employment of skilled labor in the energy sector of the Arab nation.
