Perdana Petroleum Berhad has secured two charter contracts with PETRONAS Carigali for the supply of AHTS vessels, consolidating its position in the offshore marine support segment.
The contracts, awarded through its subsidiary Perdana Nautika, cover operating periods of up to 303 and 224 days respectively, with extension options, ensuring continuous 24/7 services in upstream operations.
From an operational perspective, these contracts ensure the availability of critical assets for drilling, installation, and maintenance activities in highly complex offshore environments.
Perdana: AHTS outperform PSVs in anchoring operations
Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels represent a highly specialized category within Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs), clearly distinguishing themselves from Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs).
While PSVs are primarily designed for transporting supplies, such as drilling fluids, equipment, and materials, AHTS vessels are optimized for heavy towing operations and handling anchoring systems for platforms and floating units.
Technically, AHTS vessels feature greater bollard pull, advanced winch systems, and the capacity to handle anchor lines in extreme conditions, making them essential assets in offshore positioning and stability operations.
Integrated operations demand multi-functional capabilities
The contracts include comprehensive services ranging from drilling rig assistance to support for crane barges, in addition to towing and anchor handling operations.
This operational versatility reflects the evolution of AHTS vessels into multi-functional platforms capable of executing multiple tasks within a single operational cycle, reducing the need to mobilize different types of vessels.
From an offshore engineering standpoint, this integration improves logistical efficiency, reduces operating times, and optimizes costs in projects where maritime coordination is a critical factor.
Fleet strategy drives regional competitiveness
The award of these contracts reinforces Perdana Petroleum Berhad’s strategy to consolidate its fleet as a key asset in the Southeast Asian regional market.
In an environment where operational efficiency and the availability of specialized assets determine competitiveness, having modern and well-equipped AHTS vessels represents a significant strategic advantage.
Furthermore, the expected financial impact, reflected in revenue and net assets, confirms the relevance of these types of contracts to the sustainability of the offshore business, especially in a context of progressive recovery in the upstream sector.
