The Swedish company AFRY she was selected as an international technical advisor for Thai Binh LNG project, a 1.5 GW facility that will combine liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure with electricity generation in Vietnam.
The project, valued at $2.69 million, includes a floating LNG terminal connected to a gas-fired power plant, its development will allow the LNG to be received from offshore facilities and transported to the plant to generate electricity.
AFRY will provide technical advice to the Thai Binh LNG project
Specifically, AFRY it will provide technical support during the development phase for both land-based components and marine infrastructure.
The company will work on offshore LNG receiving systems and the combined-cycle power plant, the scope includes subsea pipelines, marine facilities, offshore surveys, and a submerged mooring system.

The LNG plant will have a capacity of 1.5 GW
Furthermore, the design integrates the supply of natural gas and the production of electricity within the same energy infrastructure.
The floating terminal will receive the LNG needed to supply a 1.5 GW combined cycle power plant, in this way, the Thai Binh LNG project seeks to expand the capacity of Vietnam’s electricity generation in the face of the country’s growing energy demand.
When it becomes operational, the facility will have an estimated production of between 6 and 10 million kWh of electricity per year.

Thai Binh LNG plans to begin operations by the end of 2029
Construction on the project began in October 2025 and the current schedule anticipates the start of operations at the end of 2029.
Thai Binh LNG Power JSC is in charge of its development, the consortium is made up of Tokyo Gas, with a 40% stake, Kyuden, with 30%, and TTVN Group, with the remaining 30%.
Furthermore, the development is part of a broader expansion of Vietnam’s LNG infrastructure, the country is promoting new projects for importing and generating electricity using liquefied natural gas.
Among them is Quynh Lap LNG, whose launch and groundbreaking ceremony was held in May 2026 in Nghe An province with the participation of SK Innovation, PetroVietnam Power and NASU.
The addition of Thai Binh LNG will expand this infrastructure with an integrated facility that connects the marine reception of LNG with a large-capacity power plant.
