ZeroNorth and Vitol have launched a digital bunker delivery trial at the Port of Rotterdam , Europe’s largest bunker hub. By implementing ZeroNorth’s electronic delivery notes ( eBDN ) solution, the four-week trial aims to optimise bunkering operations, increasing efficiency and sustainability.
Digital bunker tests begin
During the trial, Vitol will carry out multiple bunker deliveries, evaluating the benefits of digitalisation. According to Director of Customer Digital at the Port of Rotterdam Authority , Saskia Mureau, explained: “ This pilot project allows us to demonstrate the advantages of eBDNs, such as time savings and improved data quality, driving our mission to digitalise port operations .”
The trial in Rotterdam follows the successful model of the Maritime Authority of Singapore , which implemented eBDNs, positioning these ports as leaders in maritime innovation. Kenneth Juhls, Senior Vice President at ZeroNorth, highlighted: “ Digitalisation in the bunker sector is vital to reduce operational costs and improve transparency, supporting the maritime energy transition .”
This initiative aligns with global efforts for a “ Green and Digital Transport Corridor ” between Singapore and Rotterdam, laying the foundation for a more efficient and sustainable sector. Vitol’s Ian Butler added: “ Operational efficiency and transparency will benefit not only our customers, but also the wider market .”
