After months of collaborative work, Echion Technologies and Switch Technologies have successfully unveiled the world’s first hybrid vehicle powered by XNO technology , an ultra-fast charging system that promises to transform the electrification of heavy vehicles.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Series 79, fitted with this innovative technology, was the star of the test carried out in Perth, Australia, standing out for its ability to reach a full charge in just 10 minutes.

XNO technology improves the efficiency of heavy vehicles

This breakthrough is the result of a nine-month collaboration between the two companies, who worked on hybridizing a vehicle widely used in mining operations . The Toyota Land Cruiser 79, known for its ruggedness and capability in difficult terrain, was modified to incorporate XNO fast-charging technology . This advancement improves the efficiency of heavy-duty vehicles and also significantly reduces downtime in operations.

Echion’s XNO technology, which is based on a niobium anode material , enables lithium-ion batteries to achieve extremely fast charging rates – much faster than traditional electric vehicle batteries. This translates into increased range and operational efficiency that reduces total cost of ownership – essential for industries such as mining where time is a critical factor.

One more step towards sustainability in heavy transport

The introduction of the XNO-powered Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid is a clear demonstration of how battery innovation and the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles can contribute to a more sustainable future. With a focus on minimising environmental impact and reducing operating costs, this technology has the potential to be rapidly adopted in other industrial sectors that require rugged, high-performance vehicles.
