Wind Peak, Cadeler’s new flagship vessel, is ready to begin its first installation at the Sofia offshore wind farm in the North Sea. Wind Peak is a state-of-the-art vessel specifically designed for the installation of large-scale wind turbines in offshore wind projects.
Features of the Wind Peak ship
With exceptional load capacity, the vessel features advanced technology for transporting and assembling 14 MW turbine components. Its design, optimized for offshore operations, allows it to perform complex installation tasks with high efficiency and precision.
Furthermore, Wind Peak is equipped with systems that guarantee safety and sustainability, making it a crucial asset in large-scale renewable energy projects like the Sofia wind farm.
Sofia Wind Farm
The Sofia wind farm, with a capacity of 1.4 GW, will be one of the largest in the world . Developed by RWE, the project will feature 100 14 MW turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa. Some of the turbines will be equipped with recyclable blades manufactured in Hull, marking a significant step towards sustainability.
Wind Peak will soon depart from the Port of Hull to load the first six sets of turbine components for transport and installation. The installation of these turbines will help meet the electricity needs of nearly 1.2 million UK homes, saving more than 2.5 million tons of carbon emissions annually.
Innovation and the success of the Sofia project
Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler, emphasized that the vessel has been an essential component of the company’s newbuilding portfolio and that this project is a testament to the progress in offshore wind technology and the company’s commitment to renewable energy.
The vessel’s technical capability and readiness for delivery in 2024 make it a key element in the success of the Sofia project, which marks the beginning of a new era in the installation of 14 MW offshore turbines .
