Viking Life-Saving Equipment unveiled the Viking YouSafe Cyclone, the first immersion suit designed specifically for women working at sea. The company is renowned for its maritime safety technologies, and developed this equipment in collaboration with Ørsted, Siemens Gamesa and Vestas.

The first immersion suit for women

Firstly, the suit is made of Gore-Tex Narvik, a high-visibility material that complies with Solas/MED and CE/ISO standards. In addition, its ergonomic design takes into account the movements required for working on offshore platforms, such as climbing towers or moving around wind turbine nacelles.

On the other hand, Viking YouSafe Cyclone integrates features designed for maximum comfort and safety. These include durable neoprene cuffs and neck seals, integral shoulder straps for ease of movement and retro-reflective piping for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions.

Companies such as Ørsted believe that having the right PPE in place is key to fostering an inclusive culture and attracting more women to the offshore wind industry. Siemens Gamesa and Vestas also support this initiative as part of their inclusion and safety strategies in the workplace.

Finally, the launch of the Viking YouSafe Cyclone suit represents a tangible step towards a more diverse and safer wind industry. By facilitating women’s access to workplaces, such as the offshore sector, it is an essential step for the evolution of the industry in terms of equity and sustainability.
