Company to supply 50 MW heating plant in Sweden

Valmet has been selected in a public tender process to supply a 50 MW pellet-fired heating plant to Göteborg Energi AB. This facility will be built at the Riskulla site of Mölndal Energi in the municipality of Mölndal, Sweden.

This commissioned project was registered during the second quarter of 2024, although the value of the project has not been disclosed. There are estimates that the pellet plant is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026.

In addition, this new installation will be integrated into the existing district heating network. district heating network and managed by Mölndal Energi. The boiler plant will not only increase the renewable district heating capacity in the south of Göteborg Energi’s network, but will also optimize district heat production in the Mölndal and Gothenburg areas.

Göteborg Energi CEO Per-Anders Gustafsson said: “With this investment, we will improve resource efficiency and increase the amount of renewable district heating in the region. This will benefit our district heating customers in Mölndal and Gothenburg by providing a more cost-effective and reliable service.

On the other hand, Aleksi Salmirinne, Vice President of Valmet’s Energy business unit, expressed his satisfaction: “We are very satisfied with the results of the project.We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Göteborg Energi on the replacement of fossil fuels with renewable wood pellets in district heating production.
