Spain begins gradual recovery of electricity system after massive blackout

The recovery procedure requires supplying voltage to the generating sets, allowing their start-up and the progressive regeneration of energy through the grid.
El apagón masivo ocurrió en toda la región peninsular, afectando España, Portugal, Francia y otros países, según Red Electrica

This Monday morning, the peninsular electricity system suffered a critical failure that left millions of citizens in Spain and Portugal without supply. Some official reports from Red Eléctrica and other companies, indicated the immediate activation of protocemergency protocols foreseen for these scenarios.emergency protocols foreseen for these scenarios.

The massive blackout occurred throughout Spain and other countries.

First of all, the authorities have coordinated, together with competent agencies, for the restoration of the supply in a safe and controlled manner. In addition, the recovery process requires bringing voltage to the generating sets, allowing their start-up and the progressive propagation of power through the grid.

On the other hand, substations in many areas in the north, south and west of the peninsula have managed to recover voltage, partially resuming service to consumers in these regions. However, the priority is to extend this recovery in a sustained manner to the rest of the affected territory.

Likewise, REE indicates that it continues to maintain a constant flow of communication with network operators and specialized technicians to ensure that each phase of the process is carried out in accordance with established technical safety procedures.

Finally, although the investigation into the exact origin of the failure continues, the entire system is working in a coordinated manner to achieve full restoration of electric service in the shortest possible time.
