South Star Battery Metals announces the construction of its graphite mine in Brazil

South Star Battery Metals announced the construction of the Santa Cruz graphite mine located in Brazil. Work is on schedule and on budget for commercial production of Phase 1 by the end of 2023.

The main work programs for the second quarter of 2023 include: Civil construction, foundations and retaining walls of the plant area; civil infrastructure including entrance, security, additional offices, supply chain storage warehouse and contractor support area; electrical substation and internal electrical distribution network and the delivery of approximately 35% of the major equipment.

South Star Battery Metals added that all environmental and mining documents for obtaining permits and licenses for Phases 2 and 3 of Santa Cruz have been filed with the Itabela Municipality and the Brazilian Mining Agency.

The planned production program states:

2 years with 5,000 tons per year (“tpy”) of concentrates (Phase 1).

2 years with 25,000 tpa of concentrates (Phase 2).

Mine life with 50,000 tpa of concentrates (Phase 3).

South Star Battery Metals is also developing the BamaStar graphite project

The company submitted NI 43-101 technical report of its original mineral resource estimate for the BamaStar graphite project located in Coosa County, Alabama, United States.

“Drillers are ready to return to operation in May 2023, and we are planning to get an NI 43-101 Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) completed by the first quarter of 2024. The PEA will present our strategic plan for two mines, each with a production of 50,000 tons per year of concentrates,” the company said.

South Star Battery Metals, Canadian developer

South Star Battery Metals is a Canadian battery metals project developer focused on the selective acquisition and development of near-term production projects in the Americas.

South Star’s Santa Cruz graphite project, located in southern Bahia, Brazil, is the first in a series of battery metals and industrial projects to be put into production.

The second South Star project under development is BamaStar, a historic mine active during World War I and World War II. Trenching, Phase 1 drilling, sampling, analysis and preliminary metallurgical testing have been completed.
