Pam Panorama, one of Italy’s leading supermarket chains, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Iberdrola Italia to supply itself exclusively with green electricity. The total is 1,000 GWh from photovoltaic sources, which will cover the energy demand of its Pam, Panorama, Pam Local, and Pam City stores throughout Italy.

Green electricity for Pam Panorama

This commitment represents a reduction of more than 38,300 tons of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to the energy consumption of approximately 40,300 homes. The alliance allows the Italian distributor to strengthen its sustainability strategy and move toward a low-carbon operation, key in the current European energy transition context.

By 2025, Iberdrola plans to reach an installed capacity of approximately 400 megawatts in Italy, thanks to the entry into operation of its third plant and the completion of four new solar projects. This projection consolidates its role as a key player in the country’s energy transition.

This contract adds to the more than 1,250 MW Iberdrola has secured in Europe under this arrangement, reaffirming its leadership in the European PPA market, according to the Pexapark report. Its strategic partners include companies such as Amazon, BTicino, Acciaierie Venete, and Bayer, as well as major technology and automotive multinationals.

The use of PPAs allows companies like Pam Panorama to guarantee access to renewable energy at stable prices, protecting themselves from energy market volatility. This trend, increasingly adopted by European industry, accelerates the electrification of production and commercial processes.

With this collaboration, both Iberdrola and Pam Panorama reinforce their commitment to sustainability, advancing a cleaner, more efficient, and more resilient energy model. The commitment to photovoltaics as a primary energy source marks a firm step toward climate neutrality in the Italian retail sector.
