The global leader in energy technology, Hitachi Energy, has announced the expansion of its dry transformer factory in Zaragoza, Spain, with an investment of 30 million euros. This strategic project involves the transfer of the current plant to a new complex located in the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (Plaza), recognized for its advanced infrastructure and commitment to sustainability.

The new factory, scheduled to open in late 2026 , will cover more than 22,000 square meters and will be LEED Gold certified for sustainable design. This development will allow for a significant increase in production capacity to meet the growing global demand for transformers . In addition, the incorporation of automation technology and modern machinery will consolidate the company’s commitment to innovation and efficiency.
The transformers produced in Zaragoza are essential components for the efficient distribution of electricity and the decarbonisation of energy systems . Their application includes the integration of renewable energies, electrification of transport and support for data centres. This project will also generate new jobs, strengthening the economic development of the region.
A global vision with local roots
Verónica Ruiz, head of the transformer business in Europe, highlighted that this investment is part of a global plan by the company to inject more than 1.5 billion dollars into its global operations . ” We have full confidence in the Zaragoza team and in its ability to lead the energy transition towards a more sustainable future ,” said Ruiz.
Alfredo García-Borreguero, CEO of Hitachi Energy Spain, stressed the importance of this move to address global demand with the speed and scale required, while generating a positive impact on local communities.
