Drydocks World secures contract for the renewal and life extension of the FPSO Baobab Ivoirien

Following the renovation, the FPSO will continue operating for another 15 years, guaranteeing the production of 70,000 barrels of oil per day.

Drydocks World has secured the contract for the refurbishment and life extension of the FPSO Baobab Ivoirien, a project awarded to MODEC Management Services Pte. Ltd. This refurbishment further strengthens its position as a global leader in offshore asset upgrades, highlighting its ability to undertake large-scale work in the energy sector .

On the renewal of the FPSO Baobab Ivoirien

The project, which is expected to begin in May 2025 and last eight months, includes a series of significant structural improvements, including the refurbishment of 1,000 tons of steel, 250,000 m2 of tank lining, and 11,500 meters of new pipelines. In addition, crew facilities will be modernized and advanced technologies will be integrated to optimize the FPSO’s efficiency and reliability.

The FPSO Baobab Ivoirien, operating in the Baobab oil field, 25 km off the coast of Côte d’Ivoire, plays a crucial role in offshore energy production in West Africa. With a processing capacity of 70,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and the capacity to store up to two million barrels of crude oil, the vessel is essential to the region’s energy supply.

Following the renewal, the FPSO will continue operating for another 15 years, ensuring sustained energy production for West Africa.

The Drydocks World experience

Drydocks World, a DP World company, has successfully completed over 50 similar projects, including over 30 FPSOs , strengthening its expertise in vessel refurbishment, life extension and conversion.

Drydocks World CEO Rado Antolovic and MODEC President Gary Kennedy participated in the contract signing ceremony, where both expressed their satisfaction with the collaboration between the two companies. Antolovic commented that this agreement reflects the company’s experience in complex FPSO refurbishment projects.

For his part, Kennedy emphasized that Drydocks World’s extensive experience in FPSO modernization and its commitment to quality made it the ideal choice for this crucial project in such a challenging offshore environment.
