Bibby Marine has announced the signing of a contract with Spanish shipyard Armon for the construction of an electric commissioning and operation vessel ( eCSOV ). This collaboration underlines the commitment of both companies to the development of clean technologies and green solutions.

This type of vessel, the eCSOV, is designed to support the operations of the offshore wind industry, through its propulsion systems integrated with electric batteries and dual-fuel methanol engines. This approach will allow reducing carbon emissions, saving thousands of tons of CO₂ over its life cycle. In addition, the vessel will be able to operate exclusively on batteries for a full day, optimizing its efficiency in daily tasks.

The vessel design, developed in collaboration with Seaplace and based on concepts from Longitude , integrates digitalisation and artificial intelligence tools. This ensures that operational performance is consistent and operating costs remain low over time.

Armon , a company based in Vigo, Spain, with more than 60 years of experience in shipbuilding, will be in charge of carrying out this technological challenge. Its CEO, Laudelino Alperi, said that this project represents an important point in the transition towards Spanish maritime operations.

Bibby Marine CEO Nigel Quinn mentioned the importance of this vessel as a key piece in the goal of achieving net zero emissions in the maritime industry. He also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with Armon, noting that this partnership reflects a joint commitment to innovation and sustainability.

With the ability to efficiently move between ports and wind farms , the eCSOV sets a new standard for operations in the offshore wind industry. This development also reaffirms the company’s position as a leader in sustainable maritime technologies.
