The development of aerial technology took a new step with the successful testing of the PHASA-35 solar-powered drone , designed by BAE Systems . This drone reached an altitude of 66,000 feet and remained in the stratosphere for 24 hours during its maiden flight from Spaceport America, New Mexico.
Advances in stratospheric flights by the PHASA-35 solar aircraft
The PHASA-35’s demonstrated capabilities for surveillance and intelligence functions were optimal. It features a fully solar-powered system, a lightweight design and a wingspan of 35 meters, including a relaunch capability in just two days.
During testing, the PHASA-35 carried an intelligence and surveillance payload, developed by the company’s digital intelligence division. The next version of the drone will incorporate improvements in solar power generation and storage, doubling its capacity and allowing for longer and more complex missions.
The success of PHASA-35 is due to the collaboration between Prismatic , Honeywell and the UK Met Office . This joint effort reflects a commitment to using sustainable technology for security, surveillance and global connectivity applications.
