The Wärtsilä Water & Waste division has introduced its new GM Series, a range of modular grease traps designed specifically for merchant vessels, cruise ships, and offshore platforms. The technology supports regulatory compliance and directly addresses the root cause of costly failures in sanitation systems.

Indeed, the buildup of oils and fats from galleys poses a critical risk to piping integrity. The GM Series uses a gravity separation process that captures this waste at the source.
This prevents sediments from reaching biological treatment systems or discharge lines, reducing unplanned maintenance downtime. In addition, its design strictly complies with European standard BS EN 1825, ensuring operations remain within international legal limits.
The versatility of this equipment, which is available in four different sizes. The system’s flexibility allows it to be installed in both newbuild projects and retrofits of existing vessels.
Operators can choose between manual configurations or automated versions that simplify waste removal for the crew. This adaptability ensures reliable wastewater system performance under any operating conditions.
Finally, the introduction of this range in May 2026 expands Wärtsilä’s portfolio of environmental solutions. Backed by a global service network, vessels equipped with the GM Series have immediate access to technical support and spare parts in any port.
