Taihan Cable Strengthens Global Expansion with HVDC Agreements

The South Korean company signed memorandums of understanding with two European leaders for high-voltage submarine cable projects.
Taihan impulsa proyectos HVDC con Jan De Nul y Boskalis

Taihan Cable & Solution announced the signing of cooperation agreements with European companies Jan De Nul and Boskalis to strengthen its presence in the global market for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables.

The memorandums of understanding (MOU) were signed during the Korea-European Union Energy Transition Partnership Forum, held in Brussels, Belgium.

The initiative seeks to expand cooperation between the companies in offshore energy infrastructure projects and accelerate the development of new business opportunities linked to the global energy transition.

Strategic Alliances for the Submarine Cable Market

Taihan was the only South Korean company to formalize cooperation agreements during the forum, a fact that the company considers recognition of its growing position in the energy infrastructure and submarine cable sector.

The new European partners have a solid track record in offshore wind energy projects, submarine cable installation, and offshore infrastructure.

Through these agreements, Taihan expects to combine its expertise in cable manufacturing, supply, and installation with the marine engineering and offshore execution capabilities of its European partners.

HVDC Grid Demand Drives New Opportunities

The accelerated growth of offshore wind energy and the interconnection of electrical systems is increasing global demand for HVDC grids.

The companies will jointly explore opportunities related to HVDC submarine cables and associated infrastructure, a market that continues to expand as countries strengthen their investments in electrification and energy transition.

Comprehensive Expansion in the Offshore Market

After acquiring the PALOS, considered South Korea’s only cable-laying vessel, Taihan recently announced the incorporation of the CLV Skandi Connector.

A vessel of approximately 10,000 tons designed for submarine cable installation operations.

The strategy aligns with the growth of offshore markets and the development of new submarine electrical interconnections, considered fundamental for integrating renewable energies, strengthening energy security, and accelerating the decarbonization of electrical systems worldwide.
