The subsea services company Subsea7 has been awarded a substantial contract by the operator Vår Energi. This financial award, valued at an estimated range of between $150 million and $300 million, will focus on the Goliat field gas export project, strategically located in the waters of the Barents Sea.

The technical scope and development of the Goliat field

Regarding the technical specifications of the agreement, Subsea7’s responsibilities include the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of a 12.7 km, 10-inch-diameter uninsulated carbon steel pipeline. In addition, the company will manage the installation of the subsea infrastructure required to ensure a safe, efficient, and stable interconnection with existing transport systems.

In this way, gas extracted from the Goliat structure can be routed to the Hammerfest liquefied natural gas processing plant, located in Melkøya, using the existing network of the Snøhvit pipeline system for this purpose.

The operational schedule and corporate cooperation framework

With regard to the execution timelines, engineering planning and management activities will begin immediately from the corporate offices that Subsea7 operates in Stavanger, Norway. Subsequently, offshore operational phases are scheduled to be carried out progressively between 2027 and 2028.

Likewise, this commercial award represents the first operational outcome arising from the long-term strategic collaboration agreement signed on March 26, 2026, between Vår Energi, Subsea7, and OneSubsea. According to executive management statements, early involvement in technical co-design will enable predictable execution that will optimize the overall value of this energy supply asset.
