Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), a leader in innovative and sustainable maritime services, has made significant progress in remote surveying with the successful completion of a series of exercises in California. During these exercises, the WAM-V 22 autonomous surface vehicle operated for several days without needing to return to base , demonstrating its ability to conduct offshore surveys autonomously and efficiently.

Autonomous efficiency with WAM-V

This operation, which included a full seabed survey payload, provided real-time hydrographic data, demonstrating the potential of autonomous technologies to improve persistence and efficiency at sea.

The technological capabilities of our WAM-Vs now enable extended operations, opening up new operational approaches and markets for our customers.

Philipp Stratmann, CEO of OPT, emphasised the importance of this development.

OPT’s leadership in marine technologies

The demonstration of these capabilities underscores OPT’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, delivering solutions that reduce carbon emissions and improve the safety and productivity of ocean operations. The ability to maintain autonomous operations for extended periods represents a breakthrough in maritime exploration and prospecting, facilitating the collection of accurate, real-time data in diverse marine environments.

Headquartered in Monroe Township, New Jersey, with an office in Richmond, California, OPT continues to lead the development of advanced technologies for marine operations. Its PowerBuoy platforms, along with WAM-V autonomous surface vehicles and marine robotics services, provide comprehensive solutions for defense, security, oil and gas, science and research, and offshore wind markets.
