Norwegian company Ocean Sun AS announced the signing of a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ACEN-Silverwolf Pte Ltd, a joint renewable energy platform created by ACEN Renewables International and Silverwolf Capital Limited, with the objective of driving floating solar projects in Asia.

The agreement establishes a strategic collaboration framework for the development and implementation of large-scale floating solar installations on freshwater reservoirs and inland water bodies.

Ocean Sun to Provide Patented Floating Solar Technology

As part of the alliance, Ocean Sun will contribute its patented technology based on solar modules installed on hydroelastic membranes, designed to improve costs and performance in floating photovoltaic systems.

The company indicated that the agreement also reflects the evolution of its designs for freshwater applications, aimed at facilitating competitive deployments for power generation projects designed to produce massive amounts of electricity.

Kristian Torvold, CEO of Ocean Sun AS, noted that the memorandum establishes a clear path to expand the implementation of this technology alongside a developer with extensive experience in renewable energy.

“It supports our low-capital licensing strategy in the utility segment and provides a structured path from pilot projects to scale deployments,” stated Torvold.

ACEN-Silverwolf to Expand Renewable Projects in Asia

ACEN-Silverwolf highlighted that the robustness and adaptability of Ocean Sun’s technology for freshwater installations were key factors in advancing the collaboration.

Kelvin Yuen, Chairman of ACEN-Silverwolf, explained that the company seeks technologies that can be deployed in a scalable manner within its regional renewable energy portfolio.

Currently, ACEN-Silverwolf and its associated companies operate more than 100 MW of commercial and industrial renewable assets in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.

For its part, ACEN Corporation, the energy company of the Ayala group, has approximately 7 GW of attributable renewable capacity across operational, under-construction, and committed projects in Asia-Pacific.

Floating Solar Energy Gains Prominence in Asia

The collaboration reflects the growing interest of the Asian market in floating solar solutions, considered an alternative to optimize water surface use and expand renewable generation in regions with high population density.

Ocean Sun indicated that the agreement contemplates future regulatory approvals and definitive documentation before formalizing a binding cooperation framework.

The company, with offices in Oslo, Singapore, and Shanghai, seeks to establish itself as a global provider of floating solar technology through strategic alliances and international licensing models.
