MISC Group christened the LNG carriers Seri Dian and Seri Dayang, two new-generation vessels intended to bolster its long-term charter agreement with SeaRiver Maritime LLC, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil. The ceremony, held on May 7, 2026, marks a further expansion of the Malaysian shipping company’s LNG fleet.
Furthermore, the addition of these vessels brings the number of LNG carriers that MISC operates for SeaRiver Maritime to four. With the arrival of these two units, the group’s LNG fleet reaches 32 vessels, consolidating its presence among the leading international owners and operators of liquefied natural gas shipping.
Two LNG carriers
The Seri Dian and Seri Dayang vessels were built by Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd. and each has a capacity of 174,000 m³. These units are designed for LNG transport operations with higher levels of efficiency, reliability, and operational safety.
The vessels also incorporate smart technologies focused on low energy consumption. Among these is the Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling (ICER) system, a solution that optimizes performance by recycling exhaust gases. They also feature an improved cargo containment system designed to reduce liquefied natural gas evaporation rates during navigation.
In LNG shipping, energy efficiency and evaporation control are critical factors for maintaining operational competitiveness. Therefore, combining the ICER system with optimized cargo containment reduces losses, improves vessel performance, and supports safer operations on international routes.
Furthermore, these technical characteristics reinforce MISC’s focus on a modern, diversified fleet prepared to serve the maritime energy value chain.
The addition of the LNG carriers strengthens the long-term relationship between MISC and SeaRiver Maritime. This collaboration is based on the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of maritime assets linked to the global energy supply.
During the ceremony, Zahid Osman, president and CEO of MISC Group, noted that the naming of the vessels reflects the company’s progress under a strategy of disciplined growth and operational excellence. He also emphasized that the alliance with SeaRiver Maritime is based on trust, performance, and strategic collaboration.
Operational safety in shipbuilding
The project achieved two million man-hours without accidents by March 30, 2026, with no lost-time injuries. This result was presented by MISC as part of its commitment to management focused on the safety of its people and operational continuity.
In addition, the christening ceremony was attended by Hanh Nguyen, godmother of both vessels. Representatives from ExxonMobil, SeaRiver Maritime, Hanwha Ocean Shipyard, the classification society Lloyd’s Register, and senior executives from MISC Group were also present.
The names Seri Dian and Seri Dayang maintain MISC’s “Seri” tradition, associated with Malaysia’s maritime identity. According to the company, Dian alludes to radiant brilliance, while Dayang represents elegance and grace.
