The opening of the National Center of Excellence for Liquefied Natural Gas Safety at McNeese State University has allowed the Department of Transportation to consolidate what they call the nation’s energy domain. This space has more than 500 square meters, available to work as a strategic hub designed for research and technological innovation.

LNG export regulatory investigation and oversight

Following the inauguration event, it is clear that safety is at the core of this initiative. Paul Roberti, administrator of the PHMSA, mentioned that this facility will act as a critical resource of expertise for regulatory management and oversight.

The Center comes under the umbrella of the Pipeline Infrastructure Protection and Security Enhancement (PIPES) Act of 2020. The primary function will be to facilitate close collaboration among such weighty entities as the Coast Guard, the Department of Energy and the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy emphasized that the state of Louisiana serves as the most important port of exit for gas exports. gas exports to other to other destinations in the market.

By centralizing stakeholder training and the development of operational best practices in this geographic location, the government seeks to optimize the supply chain. The goal is to ensure that fuel efficiently reaches local households and international markets.
