International terminal operator KN Energies was selected by GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. to provide commercial and operational advisory services for the development of the Gulf of Gdańsk FSRU terminal, a crucial infrastructure for strengthening Poland’s energy security and further diversifying its natural gas supply.

The award places KN Energies in one of the most significant energy initiatives currently under development in the Baltic Sea. The project involves a floating storage and regasification unit that will receive shipments of liquefied natural gas by sea, convert it into natural gas, and feed it into Poland’s national transmission system.

A new infrastructure to reinforce the energy supply

The first phase of the terminal is designed to reach a capacity of up to 6.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, contributing to strengthening the country’s energy independence through new sources of supply.

Furthermore, the infrastructure is part of a broader strategy promoted by Poland to increase the flexibility of its energy system in the face of changes in the international gas market. The facility is scheduled to become operational in 2028.

Furthermore, GAZ-SYSTEM recently launched a new open season linked to a second phase of the project, aimed at increasing regasification capacity in the Gulf of Gdańsk and responding to growing regional demand.

KN Energies brings expertise in floating LNG terminals

Under the awarded contract, KN Energies will provide expert advice on the commercial and operational aspects of the terminal. The company has extensive experience in floating LNG infrastructure thanks to its involvement in European projects and the long-term operation of the Klaipėda LNG terminal in Lithuania.

The company’s accumulated experience covers stages ranging from initial project development to commercial structuring, commissioning, and continuous operation of floating terminals.

According to Linas Kilda, Director of Business Development at KN Energies, the selection reflects the growing demand for solutions that accelerate energy diversification and confirms the company’s ability to participate in complex developments related to the European LNG market.

The Gulf of Gdańsk gains strategic relevance in Europe

The development of the FSRU terminal has implications that transcend Polish borders; the facility seeks to strengthen the energy security of the entire Baltic Sea region through new natural gas import routes and a greater capacity to respond to potential supply disruptions.

There are currently 14 LNG floating terminals in operation or under construction within the European Union. KN Energies has participated or is participating in eight of these projects, representing approximately 57% of such initiatives in the bloc.

Likewise, this participation strengthens the company’s image among the most experienced players in the European FSRU segment, a market that continues to expand as countries seek to strengthen their energy infrastructure and diversify their sources of supply.
