The Canadian corporation Max Power has initiated a strategic drilling program in the province of Saskatchewan. This initiative has as its primary objective to determine the viability of the natural hydrogen reserves identified in Lawson. Specifically, the technical team seeks to ensure the financial profitability of the large-scale project. The field validation campaign began during the present month of July 2026.

The Technical Validation Project at the Lawson Complex

With respect to operational planning, the mining exploration company has completed the preliminary geological analysis phases prior to the deployment of heavy machinery. In this manner, the engineering team has ordered the transfer of the Savanna drilling rig number 416 to the selected site. This technical movement occurs following the completion of a high-resolution three-dimensional seismic study. Likewise, an independent modeling process of the underground reservoir was developed.

Consequently, engineers anticipate that the initial drilling operations will reach the anticipated discovery zone during the week of July 27 of this year. The Chief Executive Officer of Max Power, Ran Narayanasamy, has stated that this process represents a decisive phase for the energy sector. The campaign will seek to confirm the presence of constant gas flows in the zone.

The Evaluation and Capacity of the Natural Hydrogen Deposit

In order to ensure precise data regarding the deposit, the multiple-well technical program will measure various critical variables of the geological structure. Among the parameters analyzed are flow rates, pressure fluctuations, spatial continuity of the gas, and purity of the resource. Likewise, sustained delivery capacity and technical viability to scale the system to commercial distribution levels will be studied.

In a complementary manner, sector experts highlight the relevance of this project as it is the first formal exploration of natural hydrogen in the country. The success of these operations could redefine the clean energy matrix. To this end, native resources will be leveraged directly from deep geological accumulations.
