Amazon it reached a market capitalization exceeding $3 trillion for the first time in its history thanks to the growth of its cloud computing business and increased demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. After publishing financial results that surpassed market expectations, the company consolidated its position among the world’s most valuable technology companies, driven by the strong performance of Amazon Web Services (AWS), its cloud services division.

The company’s shares also rose by around 5.5% during the session, reaching a new all-time high of nearly $286 per share. With this gain, the stock has appreciated by more than 23% since the beginning of the year.

Amazon promotes its growth with AWS

The main factor behind investor enthusiasm was the acceleration of the cloud business. AWS recorded its fastest growth rate in more than four years, driven by the increasing demand for infrastructure for training and running artificial intelligence models. This performance confirmed that the company’s expansion strategy is paying off in one of its most profitable businesses.

The market reaction intensified after Amazon the company will present strong financial results and announce an increase in its capital investment forecast to expand its technology infrastructure. It will allocate more resources to data centers, servers, and specialized processors to meet the growing demand for artificial intelligence-related services.

Investment in AI convinces Wall Street

Over the past few months, Amazon has significantly increased its investments to strengthen its infrastructure artificial intelligence, among the most relevant initiatives are the expansion of its investment in Anthropic and the development of new capabilities to handle workloads related to generative AI models.

These investments have been better received by the markets than those made by other large technology companies. While companies like Tesla, Alphabet and Meta after their stock prices fell following the announcement of high levels of spending on artificial intelligence, Amazon and Microsoft managed to convince investors that this expenditure is beginning to translate into greater demand for cloud services and better growth prospects.

The company believes that artificial intelligence will continue to drive the growth of AWS, whose infrastructure has become a key platform for companies that develop and run advanced AI models.

Amazon enters the $3 trillion club

With this valuation, Amazon joins the select group of companies that have reached a market capitalization exceeding $3 trillion. That list also includes Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet and Nvidia, which currently holds the highest market valuation with a capitalization close to $5 trillion.

The company founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994, it took just over two years to increase its value from $2 trillion to $3 trillion, after first surpassing the $2 trillion mark in June 2024. The speed with which it reached this new figure reflects the growing importance of cloud computing and artificial intelligence within its business strategy.

Looking ahead to the next few quarters, analysts will be closely monitoring AWS’s performance, the pace of investments in technology infrastructure, and Amazon’s ability to sustain the growing demand for artificial intelligence. These factors will be crucial in maintaining the company’s momentum in the financial markets and solidifying its position among the world’s most valuable technology companies.
