Shearwater Geoservices y SLB they started a multi-client 3D seismic study off the coast of Amapá, Brazil, in an area that has sparked greater exploratory interest following the discovery of Morpho hydrocarbons, carried out by Petrobras.
The campaign takes place at about 130 kilometers from the Morpho well within Brazil’s Equatorial Margin, its objective is to obtain new subsurface data that will help to better understand the region’s geology and to assess its exploration prospects.
The Morpho discovery promotes exploration off the coast of Amapá
Andrea Lovatini, SLB Vice President of Exploration Data and Geosolutions, noted that the Morpho discovery has increased interest in exploration opportunities off the coast of Amapá.
He Amapá 3D Studio it seeks to provide more detailed images of the subsoil to facilitate this evaluation, with this information, interested companies will be able to analyze the potential of the area and have a more solid technical basis when making investment decisions.
To Shearwater the campaign represents one of its most significant multi-client investments, the project will expand the coverage of high-quality 3D seismic data in a sector of the basin that remains relatively unexplored.
3D seismic study survey with Isometrix and Amazon Warrior
Shearwater will perform the data acquisition using its marine seismic technology Isometrix, on board the ship Amazon Warrior this system will allow for the collection of high-density, high-bandwidth information during the campaign.
SLB it will then handle data processing and subsurface image generation, to do this, it will employ advanced workflows, including full-waveform elastic inversion.
The combination of these capabilities seeks to distinguish in greater detail the structures under the seabed and reduce uncertainty when evaluating exploration prospects.
New data for the Equatorial Margin of Brazil
The information obtained will be used to support future exploration programs and licensing processes on Brazil’s Equatorial Margin.
Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater, highlighted that the project brings together the company’s Isometrix technology and operational experience in complex marine environments with SLB’s image processing and generation capabilities.
With Amapá 3D, both companies seek to build a regional seismic database that will serve as a reference to evaluate the potential of the subsoil off Amapá and guide future exploratory work.
