Walmart plans to install Swisslog Holding AG’s automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) at its new milk processing plant in Robinson, Texas. This project aims to improve material flow, increase uptime and strengthen the resilience of the company’s dairy supply chain.
Efficient storage with Swisslog automation
The Texas plant represents Walmart’s third milk processing facility to implement Swisslog’s ASRS system , following the successful model of the Fort Wayne, Indiana plant, opened in 2018. The experience gained in Indiana has also served as the basis for the second plant in Valdosta, Georgia, scheduled to open in 2025.
The new ASRS establishes five Vectura pallet stacker cranes with KUKA palletizing and depalletizing robots , a ProMove pallet conveyor system and a transport system for small loads. All managed by Swisslog’s SynQ software , which optimizes equipment flow, organizes the operation of multiple subsystems and provides real-time material flow and inventory management capabilities .

Walmart hopes Swisslog automation will allow it to offer fresh, transparently sourced dairy products to more than 750 stores in the southern United States. Additionally, the company anticipates an increase in capacity to meet consumer demand for milk and greater efficiency across the entire operation.
