The Rietkloof and Brandvalley wind farms began commercial operations on April 23 and 24, 2025, respectively. These facilities mark the first steps of the fifth Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program(REIPPPP) bidding window project to achieve this feat.

The two wind farms are located between the Western and Northern Cape provinces, and have a combined installed capacity of 288 MW, equally distributed with 144 MW per site, with a total of 64 Vestas V150-4.5MW turbines in operation.
Cape Town-based renewable energy developer and operator Red Rocket led the execution of both projects. Moreover, the company has more than 3.8 GW of projects awarded or under development in Africa, and coordinated the construction as well as the project opening, in collaboration with Vestas and contractors Power Construction and Besamandla.
Both projects have a consortium structure that includes the African infrastructure fund AIIM through the IDEAS Fund, the women-led firm Jade-Sky Energy and the Rocket Opportunity Trust Network. The latter has a role in community engagement, promoting women’s inclusion and local development through initiatives aligned with B-BBEE equity principles.
Finally, the parks will avoid the emission of about 1.24 billion tons of CO₂ equivalent annually, contributing to national climate targets. They also strengthen the stability of the South African power grid by providing clean and consistent power in a region facing supply challenges.
