On June 26, Newcleo successfully completed the preparatory phase required by the French authorities for small modular reactor projects. This stage, designed to streamline the license application review process, assessed the maturity of the company’s project and thoroughly discussed safety options for its innovative lead-cooled fast reactors (LFRs) and nuclear fuel fabrication plant nuclear fuel fabrication plant associated.
During this phase, the French authorities held multiple technical meetings with some twenty specialized experts, along with the preparation of technical documents covering various key aspects. The culmination of this preparatory stage will include the official presentation of technical options for the TRF and MOX facilities.
Subsequently, the authorities are expected to issue a formal opinion, based on previous discussions and analysis, thus accelerating the process of granting the necessary decrees for the company.
Stéphane Calpena, the company’s global licensing director, expressed his satisfaction at achieving this crucial breakthrough in the rigorous process towards licensing its innovative sustainable nuclear sector. He highlighted the invaluable contribution of constructive discussions with French experts, who have guided the design of the project and the safety standards required by the renowned French nuclear industry.
