The projects, named Eccles and Kilmarnock, will be located in strategic locations along the main electricity transmission corridors between Scotland and England. Each facility will have a capacity of 500 MW and 1 GWh, for a total of 1 GW and 2 GWh. These energy storage systems ( BESS ) aim to strengthen the stability of the electricity grid and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the UK energy system.

This collaboration marks Matrix Renewables ‘ entry into the UK renewable generation and storage sector. The company plans to develop over 2 GW of additional capacity over the next three years, representing an investment of over £1 billion and the creation of numerous jobs in the country.

The Eccles and Kilmarnock projects are expected to be operational in 2027. Matrix Renewables is currently in advanced discussions with a leading UK-based engineering, procurement and construction ( EPC ) provider and is finalising the technical configuration, procurement strategy and financing structure for the project.
