Wallenius Wilhelmsen, a global leader in roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) logistics, has made key decisions to expand its fleet with state-of-the-art vessels . In a recent announcement, the company has exercised options for the construction of two new Shaper-class vessels, each with a capacity of 11,700 CEU. This move reinforces its commitment to long-term growth and sustainability in the maritime sector.
Shaper Class Ship Fleet Expansion
Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s fleet continues to expand with these two new vessels, which will be built at China Merchants Jingling Shipyard Co., Ltd. These new orders are part of a larger agreement that includes further ship options by 2025. Delivery of these vessels is scheduled for the second half of 2028. This strengthening of the fleet reinforces its long-term strategy and is aligned with the company’s efforts to achieve its sustainability goals.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen has also announced its intention to increase the size of two further vessels from 9,300 CEU to 11,700 CEU . This brings the total number of larger capacity vessels in its fleet to eight, enabling it to offer enhanced roll-on/roll-off services. These changes are part of the company’s ambitious strategy to reduce its carbon footprint , with the aim of offering a net-zero service from 2027.
Following the latest announcement, Wallenius Wilhelmsen will have a total of 14 Shaper class vessels in its fleet , with a mix of 11,700 CEU and 9,300 CEU vessels. Carrying vehicles, trucks and heavy machinery, these vessels play a key role in the company’s global distribution network, which spans trade routes on six continents.
