The European company Cycle0 has started up two new biomethane plants in Spain, reaffirming its commitment to the energy transition and the generation of renewable gas from agricultural and livestock waste.

New biomethane plants in Navarra and Catalonia

The new facilities are located in Artajona (Navarre) and Manlleu (Barcelona), where they will process bovine waste to produce up to 15 GWh of biomethane per year per plant. This renewable gas will be transported through a virtual pipeline to an injection point also operated by Cycle0, allowing its direct incorporation into the national gas grid.

The development of both plants has been carried out in close collaboration with local livestock farmers, who provide the raw material for the process: organic waste. This synergy provides an efficient solution for waste management, generates employment in the territory and strengthens the circular economy in rural areas.

An expansion investment plan

With these two new infrastructures, Cycle0 now has seven operating plants in Spain. Its roadmap envisages to 30 owned facilities with proprietary upgrading and liquefaction with proprietary upgrading and liquefaction technology, thanks to an estimated investment of 200 million euros. The goal is to achieve a combined production of close to 800 GWh per year.

The plants are equipped with upgrading systems developed by FNX, a Cycle0 subsidiary specializing in biogas upgrading and liquefaction. liquefaction of biogas. Based in the Basque Country, FNX employs 50 people and is key to the group’s vertical integration strategy, which facilitates the scaling of the distributed production model.
