BMT, the marine design and technical consulting firm, has entered into an alliance with Ocius Technology to improve maritime data collection technology. This collaboration aims to deploy a global fleet of 1,000 autonomous vessels over the next decade, creating a persistent and connected system of remote sensors.
Deployment of maritime data collection technology
As part of this alliance, it will focus on the development and validation of the “Bluebottle” drone ship to deliver data as a service(DaaS). Both companies will engage in creating a joint model for data collection, starting with environment monitoring in offshore wind energy projects. The USV Bluebottle, which uses a propulsion system based on renewable energies.
BMT’s expertise in environmental data collection and analysis will complement the development of an advanced sensor package. This will expand data collection capacity and ensure efficiency through a scalable network of sensors for marine applications. Graeme Nayler, BMT’s regional commercial director for Asia Pacific, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, highlighting the integration of advanced technologies in maritime data management.
The project will initially focus on supporting offshore wind energy customers. offshore wind energy in Australia by providing essential environmental analysis and planning through the use of Bluebottle vessels. These vehicles will facilitate the collection of comprehensive meteorological and oceanographic data and will be used to monitor marine biodiversity and ensure maritime operations. Ocius CEO Robert Dane expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership, revealing its potential to advance maritime autonomy and environmental protection.
BMT and Ocius are also seeking to establish collaborations in technology and information management, in addition to attracting strategic investors. This approach will accelerate global fleet deployment and drive innovation in maritime data collection worldwide.
