AMEA Power has achieved a significant milestone in Africa’s clean energy transition with the commissioning of its 500 MW photovoltaic plant in Aswan Governorate, Egypt . This project, one of the largest solar plants on the African continent, underlines the company’s strong commitment to leading the development of renewable energy projects in the region.

Positive impact of photovoltaic plant in Egypt

The plant, which was completed in a record time of 18 months, will generate around 1,500 GWh of energy per year , enough to supply around 300,000 homes. This generation capacity will contribute significantly to the reduction of CO₂ emissions , with an estimated 782,300 fewer tons of carbon dioxide annually, highlighting the positive environmental impact of the project.

In addition to the solar plant, AMEA has signed key agreements for a future 500 MW wind power project, also in Egypt, consolidating its presence in the renewable energy market. The company plans to further expand its influence in the country, supporting Egypt’s energy strategy that seeks to achieve 42% of power generation from renewable sources by 2030.

Government support at the inauguration

During the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by senior government figures including Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power, highlighted the significance of this project as a key step in the company’s global strategy and the importance of renewable energy in ensuring a sustainable future.

Beyond power generation, the company has promoted community development initiatives in Aswan. These include the renovation of health and education facilities, as well as the creation of employment opportunities for young people during the construction of the plant. These actions reinforce the company’s focus on sustainable development and empowering local communities, key to its long-term success.

With the 500 MW solar plant fully operational, AMEA Power has demonstrated its technical and execution capabilities, setting a new standard for renewable energy projects in Africa.
